Soybean paste is made from fermented soybeans. Cooked soybeans are mixed with water, salt, and a little wheat flour and fermented in pots in the sun. The flavor is pleasant and salty. Sometimes the sauce is ground with pieces or whole soybeans, and sometimes very finely.

Haitian soybean paste is produced in China and is primarily used in Chinese cuisine.
